A 27U cabinet puts you at a bit of a fork in the road. GAW's 26U cabinet lands close to your original capacity — but "closest on paper" isn't automatically the best answer if height isn't a limiting factor.
When Space Allows, We Usually Point Toward: GAW 40U

Jumping from 27U to 40U puts significantly more capacity at your disposal and moves you onto a current GAW platform.
If your installation is free-standing and there's unused vertical space above the current cabinet, that space is often more valuable than the smaller footprint of a near-match replacement.
Floor space still matters — but where ceiling clearance is available, using it now can save you from a harder capacity problem down the line.
As with all GAW cabinets, side panels, door type, and depth are configured on the product page for your convenience.
When the GAW 26U Is the Better Choice
If staying compact is the priority, 26U is the logical alternative. It tends to make sense when:
- The current cabinet has significant unused capacity
- Height is restricted
- A smaller footprint matters more than extra room
- Future expansion isn't expected
In those cases, giving up one rack unit is a minor trade-off.
Deciding Between the Two
The right question isn't "what's numerically closest to 27U?" — it's "what does this installation actually need going forward?"
Cabinet nearly full, vertical space available: lean toward 40U.
Cabinet has room to spare, compact footprint matters: 26U is likely the better fit.
Either way, the goal is avoiding a replacement that either boxes you in too soon or takes up more room than the application justifies.
Why GAW
Made in the USA. GAW manufactures its cabinets domestically, which is especially useful when you're replacing a discontinued product and the closest catalog match isn't quite right — GAW can build to semi-custom or custom specs instead.
Ships ready to install. With GAW's One Box Solution, cable management and other accessories are assembled into your semi-custom or custom cabinet before it leaves the factory. It arrives in one box, ready to set up, with no separate shipments to coordinate.
Free accessory installation. Through the GAW Advantage Program, accessories purchased with a GAW-manufactured cabinet or rack are installed for you at no additional cost. Setup requires no tools, so the cabinet can be deployed in minutes once it's in place.
GAW is also a WBENC-certified woman-owned business.
